Shumaq was founded by Peruvian designer Vanessa Barrantes. The name of the feminine yet modern prêt-à-porter label comes from the main surviving indigenous language of the Andes; Quechua. Shumaq means beautiful, describing not only the design aesthetic but also the intentions of its founder to give back to her native community. The collection is produced primarily in Lima,  as well as in NY where the designer resides. Shumaq’s Signature style is ever-evolving, often seeking inspiration from classical references to current cultural movements with the intention of creating seasonal collectibles for the contemporary woman.
